Why Reading Is A Good Habit to Take Up
As a child, I was never really interested in reading. Why read a book when you could just as well play an exciting video game or partake in a sport instead?! Plus, reading spending hours reading textbooks prescribed by my school interfered with my reading threshold, too. So, I can relate to you non-readers out there.
As someone who recently took up the habit, I can tell you a few things about reading:
It gets those creative juices flowing.
Coming up with ideas can be difficult when you don’t have much exposure or material to work with and in my field of work, as a marketer, it was important for me to stay on my toes. Reading opened up my mental faculties and introduced me to a ton of ideas that I’ve implemented in various marketing plans and campaigns!
Reading enriches the vocabulary.
Anything you read helps you see different ways you can string words and phrases together, to communicate with others or to convey your point to them. Articles and books written by contemporary authors introduced me to a variety of trendy words and terms that I’d never seen or heard before.
Reading improves your mental functions and faculties.
Reading, to the brain, is what gym is to the body- essential. When you want to grow muscles or maintain them, you work out consistently to achieve that goal. Likewise, when you read, your brain works to remember characters, nuances, incidences and this reinforces your brain’s pathways while forging new ones at the same time.
Additionally, reading improves analytical skills, too. Let me mention my own example here it’s easier for me to make a connection between incidences to come to a conclusion, now, than it was for me to do so before.
